A unique opportunity: striking new website provides enhanced user experience


Unique Venues of London is a membership organisation for the events industry that focuses on unique and specialist properties in London. UVL was established in 1993 and they have since expanded their portfolio of member venues from 18 to 81.

Following a complete rebrand of all aspects of their marketing communications, UVL chose Moore-Wilson to design and build a new website that would successfully tie in with their new brand guidelines – including their new logo and brighter colour palette. UVL wanted their new website to be crisp and modern and to promote the premium positioning of UVL in the events industry. The new website needed to have effective user journeys and useful functionality for both external users and members and required a user-friendly CMS for easy updating of the website.


The resulting website is contemporary and uncluttered whilst still in keeping with the new UVL branding. The website is also fully responsive, improving accessibility for users on different devices, and has clear navigation on all screen types. In order to highlight UVL’s premium positioning in the events industry the new design makes good use of strong, iconic imagery throughout the website. We chose the open source content management system Drupal for this project as it would provide the simplicity and user-friendliness that UVL needed.

To improve the user experience for non-members and external users, we implemented advanced search functionality that would help users to narrow down the venues on offer and help them find the right venue for their requirements. Users can view UVL’s venues on a map and can filter venues by a variety of options. We have also added sliding scales to the search system that allow users to select the exact capacity for the type of event they want to hold.

As well as improving the user experience for external users, we also made improvements to the website for members of UVL. Logged in members of UVL can now make use of a personal dashboard where they can edit information about their venue, add special offers, access contact lists and view statistics, leads and other additional marketing opportunities relating to their venue.

We are also working with UVL on an ongoing Search Engine Optimisation campaign. We have seen good improvements in Google rankings. Our SEO efforts have also led to a significant increase in traffic. The number of visits to the UVL website was 18% higher in October than in April (the first month of the campaign) and organic search traffic was 23% higher.
