Vodafone is one of the world’s largest mobile telecommunications companies, measured by both revenues and subscribers. Vodafone runs the Vodafone Foundation, a charity that makes use of mobile technology to bring about social change. Vodafone chose Moore-Wilson to design and build a new video player for the Vodafone Foundation that would make it much easier to quickly find video sequences conveying the achievements of their charitable giving.

The key aim of the website was to provide a simple and streamlined way for users to find videos about the projects that the Vodafone Foundation is involved with. We decided that it would be useful for the video player to work in similar ways to the BBC’s iPlayer and the ITV Player as most users are now familiar with this very successful approach.

We set up a streaming service to ensure that the videos would play quickly and would ensure good user experience. Although we built the new system in HTML5 we also incorporated functionality to automatically switch to a Flash video player for older browsers. Finally, we also created the new branding for ‘Mobile for Good’ which has been very popular.

Key Features:

  • New website
  • Video player functionality
  • New branding for ‘Mobile for Good’
  • Video streaming
  • Backward compatibility for older browsers
