UCL Hospital’s Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is one of the UK’s principal centres for medical research. The work that the BRC carries out and the funding it provides help turn research projects and experimental studies into treatments than can directly benefit patients. Previously the BRC only had a section on the main UCL Hospitals website. However, due to its position as a leading centre for research, a full website was required. Moore-Wilson has strong experience in designing and building websites for the NHS and as a result we were selected to develop the standalone website for the BRC. UCL wanted the website to be clean and clear, with distinct pathways for users through the site.

The resulting website is bright, clean and in keeping with the overall NHS style. We paid particular attention to the site structure and incorporated clear pathways for different users who might be members of the public or professional investigators. To keep the information on the BRC website fresh and up-to-date we incorporated a module that would highlight the most recent tweets from the BRC and implemented a scrolling bar that features the latest updates from the BRC. The website is responsive and will adapt to different screen sizes, also providing accessibility via tablet and mobile devices.

The UCL BRC website will continue to develop and expand throughout this year. We are planning to add a members’ area to the website that will improve communication and collaboration among users and researchers. This new feature will allow members to exchange documents and share research and project news.
