Requirement:

With over 30 years’ experience, Plantation Shutters are one of the largest suppliers of traditional wooden shutters in the UK. They are extremely passionate about what they do and combine high quality service and design with a reasonable price. The functionality and design of their website, however, had not been updated for a long time. Plantation Shutters felt that a refresh was long overdue and tasked Moore-Wilson with the development and build of their new website. They were conscious that the website needed to be customer focused - that users could find what they were looking for quickly and easily. With increasing numbers of people using their smartphones and tablets to browse and shop online it was also key that the website displayed well across a variety of screen sizes and platforms. As well as improving the customer-facing side of the website, Plantation Shutters also wanted more improved functionality for the business side.

Solution:

The finished website is modern and clean, but is also simple to navigate and is fully responsive across all platforms. In order to improve customer experience, several new features have been included in the new website. The gallery has been updated so that users can easily find examples of the shutters they are considering. The images can be filtered by shutter style, window style, shutter finish and even by type of room shown in the image. Users can also filter the images by more than one option to get an even more refined search. We also made improvements to the colour options page to make it straightforward and simple to use. The new page is interactive and users can compare and contrast the different colours on offer. When you click on a colour it brings up a larger version of the image that stays on screen as you scroll. 

The quote calculator has been restructured and simplified to improve ease of use. A colour coding system has been implemented on the calculator, and throughout the rest of the website, to help reduce confusion between the different types of wood that are available. The calculator also works in different measurements. To improve the business side of the website we added functionality so that when a customer uses the calculator to get a quote, Plantation Shutters are notified that they may be contacted in the near future and are given the quote reference.

Moore-Wilson have also been carrying out an ongoing SEO campaign for Plantation Shutters for a number of years. When the campaign began in 2008 the website was ranked outside of the top 100 places in Google for their most important keyword terms, ‘Shutters’ and ‘Window Shutters’. The website is now ranking on the first page of Google for these terms, and for all the other key terms we have focused on. The SEO campaign has brought increasing levels of traffic to the Plantation Shutters website since it began in 2008. In the last year visits were up 423%, unique visitors 371% and page views 152% compared to the beginning of the campaign. The most recent year of the campaign saw a 115% increase in website visitors and 65% increase in page views on the previous year. The SEO campaign has also helped to increase Plantation Shutters’ sales leads by 140%, which is extremely positive.
