World Photo Organisation

The World Photography Organisation (WPO) was established in 2007 to raise the level of conversation around photography worldwide, through a year-round programme of exhibitions, awards and competitions. The WPO’s mission is to support photographers around the world, to celebrate and show their work, as well as nurture the medium of photography on a global scale. WPO runs a year-round portfolio of events including the world’s largest photography competition, the Sony World Photography Awards and Photofairs - art fairs dedicated to presenting fine art photography and moving images.

THE BRIEF:

The WPO required a new responsive, mobile-ready website that met the demands of the photography community.

Its old site had limitations including an inflexible CMS and an unresponsive digital experience for tablets and mobiles visitors. The WPO also wanted to allow third-party sites to enter their competitions through an API. The key parts of the project included:

  • New website design and build
  • Responsive website for greater engagement
  • Drupal CMS and Laravel
  • API for competition entry and partner integration
  • Migration of 200,000+ members to the new site
  • Advanced functionality including the ability to judge competitions securely via the website
  • Advanced social media integration hiking engagement and content interaction

THE PROJECT:

After a period of consultation with the WPO,  Moore-Wilson was selected as the partner of choice.

This was due to our ability to manage the whole project from start to finish all within Moore-Wilson. This included creating a new design, building the site and delivering an API that clients can link to. For example, Sony websites in regions such as Japan and China will use the API to bring the competition to their audiences, which had never happened before.

THE RESULTS:

Moore-Wilson created a smart, responsive mobile-ready website that was ready to migrate 200,000 members from the old site to the new one and deployed onto an Amazon platform that was built to scale and configured for high availability.

The project was delivered to a very tight timeline and launched successfully on time, on budget, with over 2,000 competition entries in the first 10 days of launch. 

The project has continued to evolve and expand and we are currently adding functionality to allow competition entries directly from social media channels such as Instagram and, in China, from Weibo which is a huge advancement for the WPO. We are proud to have been selected to be part of such a successful and important project for the WPO.
