Bringing together Covid vaccine research in the UK
The UK Covid Vaccine Research Hub, is a brand new website designed to raise awareness of the immense contribution of UK scientists to the development and understanding of vaccines for COVID-19. It was created by the British Society for Immunology (BSI) and hosts a range of resources and information for researchers, policy makers and the general public.
THE BRIEF:
This site would act as an online portal that would provide up-to-date information for researchers about Covid vaccinations.
Key features of the project included:
- Easy to manage site that would enable the team to update and add new website content
- Clear navigation, especially around 3 key target audiences and user groups
- Scalable, both in terms of future functionality and in the volume of content for users
- Clear and accessible branding and design appeal
- A fast and accessible site that follows best practices in efficiency and effectiveness.
Despite the fast pace of the project, all stages of the website went through a thorough testing cycle and the new site launched in early November.
"THE PROJECT:
The scope of work and timelines were agreed upon during an efficient scoping and design phase. As BSI already had a number of Drupal sites, it was keen to have the new site built in Drupal 9.
The site was built quickly so that BSI could start adding all of the new content, while some sections were still being developed. Despite the fast pace of the project, all stages of the website went through a thorough testing cycle and the new site launched in early November.
THE RESULT:
The website is now up and running and is a great hub for bringing together UK research around Covid vaccinations and to provide scientific information around critical areas such as:
- The effectiveness of vaccines in people with weakened immune systems
- Safety and effectiveness of vaccines in children
- The effects of medications and health conditions on vaccine protection levels
- The timing of booster doses and how this affects the protection levels of vaccines
The site is incredibly fast and provides a very high lighthouse score in terms of accessibility, performance and best practices, all of which was important to BSI.
